The show is more about how her parents hid their problems from her and that she got married thinking she was going to die soon. However, I get what you're saying, and I hate how shows use cancer as the big drama card while not showing some of the awful parts of cancer. There's no side effects and they can walk around. Lucy Hale's character looks bright-eyed and bushy-tailed under her headscarf.

+1, TV/movie cancer is always either "death" or "100% healthy". You don't get the much more common outcomes of "cured but not well" or "not terminal but chronically ill, possibly for decades".
