Don't be so hard on yourself, anon. It's tough knowing how stuff like this will affect you until it happens and you were caught off guard. I'm glad it sounds like your parents are open to having a healthy discussion about this. If talking to your doctor would help, please consider doing that. If not, maybe you could come up with a game plan for the next time something like this comes up. Your parents could arrange to call/text regularly, maybe you could make a short trip yourself to visit friends/family, or have them visit you... just something to be kind to yourself and give yourself a break.
