I never liked her, she always strikes me as fake and manipulative.

Unlike all those genuine, sincere pop starlets

i know what you mean, but people like say britney spears never struck me as manipulative. manufactured yes, but even that was more a label thing than a starlet thing

I've never understood this perception and I don't think I ever will. She strikes me as one of the most genuine famous people I can think of. Calculated, yes, but genuine.

Nah. Maybe for her love of her fans and her family and supporters which is cool because she does genuinely care about them. But not for political causes. Artists attach themselves to political causes all the time but something about her feels extra disingenuous with how she throws it away an album cycle later. Bono is a pretentious fuckstick who is probably an asshole to his fans but I’ve never doubted he cares about the environment for instance.

She is a savvy calculated businesswoman though. Incredibly cutthroat which I find admirable and wish she would embrace it more. Blank Space might have been a parody/satire song but boy did that feel genuine and self aware.

This is simply not accurate. There are only two political causes she's definitively allied herself with - feminism, and LGBT rights. She's still actively allied with feminism, as demonstrated by many things, but most recently, the third verse of her latest song. And her vocal support of LGBT rights is too new to say one way or the other what she will do over time, but she's so far been very consistent in her support.
