It is baffling to me that someone can release a song that's nothing but "conservatives need to chill out and leave women and the queer community alone" and get a reaction like "aha, this proves you're scared to be political."

It's not even the first pro-LGBTQ thing she's done! It's just the first one that's charted.

Yes leave the queer and women community alone by using all those pretty straight famous people. Kinda defeats the purpose.

...do you mean the music video with like 50 famous lgbt people in it? or are we talking about something else?

Good chance AYRT can't name more than three famous LGBT people.

Seconding this so freaking hard. Every time I think I've seen the full extent of how determined some people are to dislike and mistrust her, a new situation comes along that proves that, no actually, people are even more determined than I'd previously realized.

People have literally gone from heaping criticism on her for not being vocally political because she didn't want to alienate consumers, and also because she didn't feels like she knew enough about the issues to speak with authority on them, to heaping criticism on her because her political support is not formulated in the exact way they want it to be.

Some people keep accusing her of being fake, but I honestly think her political stance is extremely genuine. Because I genuinely believe she knew she'd get this reaction long before she ever began speaking up. It was undoubtedly one of the major reasons she was so hesitant to take a stand. And to her immense credit, she decide to speak up anyway. Because regardless of it hurting her brand, it was the right thing to do.

As people are determined to distrust her, her fans are determined to defend her like she is a struggling artist. Do you personally know her? Were you with her when she decided to speak up?

All I can say is that I would give the exact same benefit of the doubt to any celeb who had done as she has done. To do otherwise would feel to me like searching for a way to frame positive actions in a negative light.
