149- You also, are me. You should enjoy it for the relationship, and the dynamics, not for the junk between their legs. And if you dislike something JUST because it's slash (or some thinly veiled excuse there of) yeah, there's some homophobia there.

What if it isn't dislike so much as it is indifference? I don't care about slash because in fanfic I usually like to read about the women so male/male does nothing for me so i don't read it, I don't fangirl it and I don't seek it out. For other people they are only interested in male/male so that is all they read. One's fanfic preferences does not brand how open or close minded they are.

Then you don't like it JUST because it's slash. From the sounds of it, you don't even dislike it.

The test would be, I guess, if you were interested in two males, who HAD a strong connection that in any other context you WOULD ship, but you don't because they're male. (And, we're assuming there's not other context like ones a flaming homophobe or something, that would make it particularly OOC)

I'm not terribly interested in femmeslash, because I'm generally the opposite of you in relation to character, but there's still a few femme slash pairing that have popped up on my radar and I ship.

I guess where that comes in, I can think two guys are possibly to be together in a show, but that is as far as my interest goes, but I guess that would go about defining what a person means by shipping. I mean if you say I like two guys together in a show then yeah that is shipping, I just don't really get into beyond that. To me shipping always seemed to be beyond just "liking a pairing".

I am always dubious on declaring homophobia based on "ship" preferences because that always seemed nebulous to me and I think that was my problem with the secret.

See, to me "Shipping" in this context is a lot more general (although yeah, I do see what you mean) I think in the case of the secret I would assume shipping was just easier then saying "Couple you could see."

I think to me, where the homophobia comes in is if you ONLY dislike it ONLY because it's slash. It's a response not to "I like this couple and this couple and this couple, none of which are gay" as much as a response to "I don't like slash, but I'm not a homophobe." (Or, at least MY version of it is)

It's kind of like the people who say "I'm not a misogynist, I just hate all females." Yeah, keep telling yourself that.
