No. I think Nick's initially drawn to, then haunted by his encounter with Gatsby and Gatsby's circle. I think he's repelled by some of what he sees and it ends in a lot of disenchantment and disillusion. I don't think "creepy" is an accurate descriptor.

I don't think "creepy" is a fitting descriptor for the face. I honestly don't get the horror thing unless you're taking the artwork literally.

I think both the novel and the cover are meant to be unsettling.

So what makes the artwork "creepy"? Whereas the book isn't IYO.

Personally, I find the whole eyes and a mouth floating above the horizon thing creepy, particularly without a nose or other features. It's obviously a subjective thing.
