I decided to finally give that whole "casual sex" thing a try, and hit it off with a guy on tinder. We'd agreed to "meet", but when he told me the place, the reality of the situation sunk in and I freaked out.

I spent half an hour googling "how to cancel a tinder date nicely", and in short, I'm still a thirtysomething virgin.

If you totally want to be 100%, just tell him that you realized you weren't ready, thanks and best wishes the end. If you think you might just want to slow down and try again at a later date, say that. Or maybe you'd feel better with the old reliable "let's meet for coffee" in a public place first?

Thank you - I'll remember that for the next time. I shot off some message going "I can't do this after all sorry to have wasted your time it's not you it's my own problems", which problably made it seem way more serious than it was.

Sometimes I think I’d like to have sex at least once just to see what the fuss is about, but I’m pretty sure I’m pretty close to asexual, and even if I’m wrong about that I tend to freak out a bit when people touch me, even accidentally or platonically.

The idea of ruining someone else’s day because I had a panic attack before, during, after, or all through having sex has kept me from trying, and also I’m fat so my options would be limited. I’ve never even managed to hold hands with or kiss anyone and have to brace myself to endure hugs from relatives. Sigh. I am curious, though. —another 30something virgin.

Just say you're new to this whole dating online thing and need to take things slowly. It might be a good idea to put that in your profile, actually. Most people will understand, and those who don't are likely to be assholes who should be avoided anyway.
