That is indeed a radical stance. We need more choices, not less. But her stance is rooted in her desire to take on large corporations that border dangerously on monopolies - like health insurance corporations. I have healthcare through my job, too. I pay a lot for it, and it covers almost nothing. I work one entire week per month just to enrich healthcare executives. So I absolutely see where she's coming from.

It isn't just about choices. Countries with socialized medicine simply do things better than the United States. It is unconscionable that there would be anyone in this country who couldn't get necessary medical care simply because they can't afford it. And there is the fact that insurance companies right now make medical decisions for people rather than doctors. A doctor can prescribe something, but an insurance company can still deny coverage.

There are so, so many problems with our current health care. Socialized medicine isn't perfect. But it is much, much better than what we have. It is really the only workable solution.
