I ... agree.

I've watched Cowboy Bebop about ... four times, dubbed and subbed, and for some reason it will not stick with me. I just don't remember any of it, any time I've ever watched it. It's like watching it new every single time. It's weird, like some insane perception filter.

It's not bad, just... unremarkable?

Samurai Champloo, however, is A+.

The only episode I really, strongly remember is the one that was an "Alien" homage.

I love Cowboy Bebop but only the English dub. That stuck out to me because I first watched it during a time when nearly everyone was still pissing on dubs (which yes, at the time most of them were pretty awful).

(Anonymous) 2019-07-02 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Bebop's dub was astonishingly good at the time. Now that dubs are leagues better than they used to be, it's not as notable, but back then it was like "holy shit, they actually get it! They can act!"

I feel like Cowboy Bebop was more impressive at the time; it hasn't aged super well. It feels dated, and that definitely drags it down a little. It's still good, for sure, but I don't believe that it belongs in the upper echelons of anime like some people feel it is.

I think it has the same feel as an an Oscar Bait movie. It's "good," but its good quality is dry and calculated, so it's just boring.

Plus the fans are pretentious.

I really liked the music, or most of it. But the story didn't wow me

I enjoy the movie, but honestly, I don't recall ANYTHING about the show other than the fact that I loved Ed because they remind me of me.

Honestly, Trigun was my everything.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-02 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes!! Trigun was the shit, I loved that show. Vash Stampede is still my dream man.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-02 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
And it was one of those shows where I loved ALL the main characters. They were just all so different and well written, ugh. <3

Add me to the pile. It just never clicked for me.

Mind you, what I was watching around then was Trinity Blood. And Last Exile. And Pumpkin Scissors. So I'm not sure how much that was to do with actual quality ...

(Anonymous) 2019-07-02 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Trinity Blooooood~~. <3

(Anonymous) 2019-07-02 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
does trinity blood actually have a solid ending or does it just taper off into 'well there might be more~' like the novels?

(Anonymous) 2019-07-03 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
NGL, It's been so long I can't remember 100%. I believe they tried to wrap it up a little bit better than the novels did, but I think it was still pretty open ended.

I tried to watch it a few times but could never quite make it stick. As it were, I kept coming up against this attitude that Outlaw Star (my ragtag space western anime of choice) was just, like... a shitty, shallow 'discount' Cowboy Bebop, and that zapped any interest I had in trying again.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-03 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
You'd be surprised by how many people share this opinion. It seems like a winner in theory. I mean, the animation was incredible, the characters were interesting, the setting was creative, but man was it forgettable...

I still really enjoy Cowboy Bebop, but I do agree that Samurai Champloo seems to be forgotten by comparison and I think they're on par as far as quality goes.

From what I've heard through the years, you're either in the camp that loves Cowboy Bebop more or the camp that loves Samurai Champloo. The levels of people liking the other show varies. I have vague memories of watching Cowboy Bebop when I was a kid because my brother loved it, but I remember how much I loved each episode of Samurai Champloo.

I loved Cowboy Bebop, but I tend to favor space operas anyway. Samurai Champloo was good, but I definitely enjoyed Cowboy Bebop more.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-04 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
I like the Pierrot le Fou episode of Cowboy Bebop (the only one I've ever seen).
