I'm failing to see the part of this secret where the OP is begging for comments or saying that someone should. Are they not simply saying that it is kind to leave compliments on fic you like and that it makes both the author of the fic and the author of comment happy?

Hmm. I don't think it was necessary to be this dick-ish about it.

Literally the first sentence of the secret is "Always leave comments for fic writers!", which doesn't seem hard to miss, to me

(Anonymous) 2019-07-05 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
And someone who has possibly never written a fanfic in their life but who just believes in rewarding good fic with positive comments has now morphed into a writer pleading you for comments? Fucking tenuous assumption.

Sure, begging isn't the right word, but on the other hand, OP is definitely directly telling people to leave comments. I think probably they just meant it in the sense of, like, "don't worry about it being awkward to leave comments on fics that are old, it's fine" (and for the record, I'm not the one who started this subthread). But I can also understand how someone could see it as part of the broader idea that readers have a moral obligation to leave comments on fics and respond to it in that light.

So it's not begging. Which is what people keep telling you.

If you think that's a reasonable interpretation of the secret, your reading comprehension skills could use some work. "Moral obligation" is 100% pulled from your ass. It's such a stretch that it feels like you're just trying to stir shit up, or you have some serious trouble figuring out the meaning of words.

OP really should take the L on this one and brush up on their comprehension skills.

Somebody makes a really lovely, positive secret and someone always rushes in to piss all over it.

mte. didn't we lately have a "i left fandom because it was bad for me and now i have a happy healthy life!" and some people commented on how op was clearly judging them

some people are just wack yo

(Anonymous) 2019-07-06 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. I don't know WTF is up with that one anon - and I hope it IS just one anon - but jesus...

It's not hard to miss, but your reading comprehension is embarrassingly poor. I'll try and spell it out:

Encouraging people to leave comments on fic isn't the same thing as begging for comments on your own fic.
