Cats absolutely figure us out and make the sounds they think will get them what they want from us. My cat has actually started crying like a Siamese cat when we don't let her out on the porch. It is the saddest thing and honestly makes me want to comfort her. It sounds like she's in physical pain. She totally knows what she's doing. My mother absolutely hate's that noise and hates Siamese for that reason and has threatened to re-home her, though, so I'm not allowed to talk to her when she does that. But it is hard. She's smart.

Siamese are the best cats in the world. Your mom is nuts.

I think so. It doesn't bother me. Honestly, it just makes me think my cat is smart to know how to sound sympathetic for humans. But then again, she's my girl and we have a special bond and there is nothing she does that I wouldn't find cute. Even when she attacks my feet I don't really mind. I can't be mad at her, I love her too much.

We always had Siamese, and I choose them over any other cat. Their vocalizations never bothered me - they're just talking!

My Oliver cat might be part Siamese - he certainly sounds like he is!

All I know is my Joanna is calico. She comes from a prior abusive home, so I know absolutely nothing about her ancestry. They were going to dump her, so I took her. Honestly, if my mother tries to re-home her, I'll just go live on the street. I don't think mom would, really. But if she did. Joanna is my girl, and I would not be willing to let her go.

I don't get the point of wanting to toss her out. She's there, she's healthy, you love her - leave be! Seems really unnecessarily cruel and hurtful to even hint at it.

It was a threat to me. A "get your cat to stop this, stop encouraging this behavior in her, or else." Mom didn't like that I went all gooey and sympathetic when Joanna did the Siamese cry. She hadn't heard it from her before so it was my fault for encouraging her.

Oh, please. That's ridiculous. And they'll do it no matter what you do, although if she cries to come out and you let her, she'll *stop* crying, so if that's the big, unbearable irritant, it would actually stop.

I feel...extremely displeased toward your mother for that sort of blackmailing, nasty behavior. So incredibly unnecessary.

Yup. Mom thinks if we ignore her she'll stop it. I don't buy that at all. But since I don't even want to think about losing my cat, I'll do it (when mom can see me anyway).

Yeah, just for the record, she's wrong, but i get having to step lightly, as crappy as it is.

My relative's cat used to quack. Not very often, but she did. I thought they were making it up until I heard it one day.

That sounds adorable. Joanna often chirps. Especially when she's watching birds and happy. Or when she's just randomly talking to me. She'll just give off this little chirp. And she really does sound like a bird.
