Yeah, there's plenty of things to criticise about her without picking on her appearance. And going after her appearance weakens all the other criticisms too.

It really does weaken them. If someone adds something about person A's appearance as a reason that person A is bad, I automatically wonder if that someone's other points are true. And it tends to make me sympathize with person A because they've probably had to deal people like that.
