I think I've also heard the idea of him as Shadwell, and that, I can sorta see.

I could definitely see that working.

I could see that, but I would’ve loved him as the televangelist from the book that got cut from the show.

Well, the other problem is that he's American, right?

Funny story

When I was little, I thought he was British because it seemed like all the funniest people were. (Monty Python, the Cosgrove-Hall cartoons, etc.)

I don't know this series, but you do know that Robin Williams also took dramatic roles, too? He didn't only do comedy. Some of his best stuff was serious. One Hour Photo... *shudder*

Yeah, this. He wasn't always cracking jokes in every role.

He had some very moving roles. Dead Poet's Society? His sadness over the war/his friend/the woman he fell in love with in Good Morning Vietnam?

I think the cast of GO is great, and Robin's gone anyway, but he would have done a great job.

The role of Aziraphale isn't like those dramatic roles, though. Look. I'm not saying Robin Williams wasn't good in the roles he was in. He was. I'm saying that you can be good and funny and still not be a good fit for certain roles.

Sure, but Good Omens is a comedy and all of his comic roles are exactly as OP described, which wouldn't fit with Good Omens or that character.

I know he took dramatic roles, and he was excellent in them. But you're missing my point. It's NOT that I think Williams is an inadequate actor and that's why he wouldn't have been good at the role. It's that his comedic roles all bear his distinctive comedic stamp because Williams loved to ad-lib and go off script. He was hilarious at it! But that humor is not Good Omens. It's not Aziraphale.

he would have made a great Riddler in Batman though.

Why does anyone care since he doesn't exist anymore?

(Anonymous) 2019-07-08 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, because people never have any opinions about the dead. If you don't care, why bother reading this secret/thread? Let the people who are interested have their harmless discussion, nobody's forcing you to give a shit.
