What movie do you think has sold the most copies, specifically on VHS?

E.T., Star Wars, maybe Titanic or Independence Day

Either A New Hope or Empire Strikes Back.

I cheated and googled it. I am also please with the answer. The Lion King has sold the most VHS. Disney movies actually dominate the list (DVD), which makes sense. Kids will watch movies over and over until they break. Those are US numbers but I expect they are similar world wide.

It makes sense - I figure kids' movies are more universal, if anything.

That does make total sense. Also it is a great movie.

Wikipedia says (US):
1. Lion King
2. Snow White
3. Aladdin
4. Titanic
5. Beauty and the Beast

Makes sense. In addition to what's been said above about Disney videos, Titanic hit at a time when VCRs were far more common and VHS tapes cheaper than during the time original Star Wars trilogy, so a lot more people were going to go out and buy it when it was first released.

In your personal opinion, which are better, wolves or dogs?

What do you mean better, though? Because honestly I really love both of them for completely different reasons. Wolves are fascinating and really interesting. Dogs are lovable and adorable. I don't know if I could pick which is "better."

Well... wolves existed before dogs, and humans decided to make dogs out of them, so historically speaking dogs were clearly more desired and "better" in general than wolves. Or else we'd have left them as wolves.

I don't have a personal opinion on this

Sorry. I hit send too early.

I don't have a personal opinion on this other than that*, but that's what I'd go with if asked.

I find dogs more interesting, that’s for sure.

Wolves are better for the natural environment as predators in the wild.

Dogs are better as companions to and workers for humans and generally co-existing with people.

Is it bad that the only reason I pay any attention to the news is because I think a couple of the anchors are cute?

I'm sure there's worse reasons...

How do I get the smell of dead rat out of an unwashable throw? I came home from work today and sat down on the couch to read. I have a couple of beaded embroidered throws on the couch and kept smelling something rank. The other day I came home to half a small mouse, courtesy of my cat, on the floor, and tonight I assumed that rather than eating it like normal she must’ve left it under the couch to fester.

I wish.

I moved one of the throws—which I’d shaken out this morning, btw—and revealed a FUCKING ENORMOUS DEAD RAT OH GOD ARGH.

I was half right; this thing must’ve been dead for at least a couple days. I dunno where she hid it while it was building up to stink o rama. I hate febreeze and other room fresheners so I may just sprinkle lots of baking soda on the throw and leave it out to air tomorrow.

Okay, this turned out more of a vent than a question, but if anyone has other ideas, please share.

Personally, I would just throw the thing out, unless it had some remarkable sentimental value.

Get it dry cleaned.

Re: Random Questions

(Anonymous) 2019-07-09 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd probably talk to professional cleaners. Call or visit a local dry cleaners and explain the problem and ask what they'd recommend. It may be possible to clean it without water, to spot-clean gently by hand, to soak it without agitation, or to cover the beaded parts with temporarily sewn-on netting and gently wash it.

Febreeze isn't just an air freshener, though - it's formulated to eliminate odors and there are types that specialize in fabrics. Honestly, it's probably your best bet if that throw can't be washed but even then I'd seriously consider tossing it because "doesn't reek" isn't the same thing as "clean".
