This is the dumbest thing I ever heard.

You: "Cast more people of color!"

Them: Casts a woman of color.

You: "You didn't do a good thing!"

Them: .....

I'm neutral on race-bending, but when I first saw a picture of the actress playing Ariel, I was like, wow, that's perfect casting.

They did a good thing, but they did it for reasons other than it being good, and we shouldn't celebrate them as the driving force of woke progressiveness or anything like that

I feel like this is like the corporate Pride Month thing where it's more like "I would have loved to see this kind of stuff growing up even if it's for cynical reasons". I want to see companies do better, but if this is a stepping stone, so be it.

I totally agree! I am not against it. But I think it's also important to not limit it to the forms and methods of change beneficial to corporations.

I have a secret for you, anon: Nobody does good things just to be good. We do good things to get something good back for it, whether that something is money, popularity, your own human rights, or the self-satisfaction of knowing you're better than people who do bad things.

this comment tells me more about you than the world

No. There's no such thing as altruism. There's no such thing as doing good for the sake of doing good. That's a fantasy. A fairy tale. A myth. Pure ignorance. In actuality, you do good because it makes you feel good about yourself, and it makes you more socially accepted. That's it. That's not even a bad thing! We're able to exist as a relatively functional society because of it. It's inherently productive and rewarding to do acts of good and humans crave rewards and were evolved to be productive. "Altruism" has nothing to do with it. It doesn't exist. That's wishful thinking and it'll get you nowhere.
