Most all inclusion is done superficially nowadays. People will always argue for and against it, but having 'one of' a certain sexuality or race seems to be the norm now rather than for 'true' diversity sake.

This is exactly my problem with it. It feels like we haven't actually taken any steps forward since the 90s, because I remember being a kid back then and watching TV shows and there was always the one black kid, the one Asian kid, etc. in the group. It was all just for show rather than a genuine attempt to include diversity.
