Yeah, yeah, we all know that people who rock the self-confidence no matter what they look like or what they're wearing are the coolest people of all. But I'm talking about outside appearances. What hair/clothes/make up says "cool" to you?

Leather or jean jacket, jeans (not distressed, I hate distressed jeans), t-shirt, boots. Regardless of gender.

I'd agree with that except I'd add that much depends on what's on the t shirt.

The kind of person that I think is cool, or the kind of person that I think would subjectively be considered by society at large as cool?

Bright, unnatural colored hair. I've been dying to dye my hair green, but I worry too much about what other people would think. People with bright hair don't give that kind of fuck, and I admire that.

See, I don’t care what other people think, but I do worry I’d fuck up my hair and/or want my original color back way before it grew out, and I can see trying to go back to my original color just making it worse.

Specifically on women:

Sunglasses
Leather jacket
Jeans, especially 100% cotton jeans where the fabric's a little stiff at first
Footwear with pointed toes
Fairly light makeup overall
Lipstick, especially if it's bright

I don't pay enough attention to men's fashion to know what I think looks cool on men.

Sunglasses, unless they are too big or some color shaded (blue, yellow, tan, etc.), then it's either trying too hard, retiree, or mafia.

Boots, from combat to cowboy to thigh-high lace-ups, as long as they are worn in manner that shows the person knows how to move in them.
