This is interesting to me because I have never had a fandom friend who was *more* than that. Don't get me wrong. I adore some people I've met through fandom and interact with them frequently, sometimes about things other than the fandom that brought us together, and I do miss some people I don't talk to much anymore because our fandom interests have changed. But I participate in fandom as an escape from real life and I don't want or need to have those things overlap. I'm 110% OK with having fandom friends who are just that.
