oh hey I've never had a comment become a secret before! I still want this so much.

A+++ pic choice, OP!

(Anonymous) 2019-07-17 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Me too, OP. It's something I daydream about during my hellish commute.

I'd love to create something that had its own fandom, and I'd definitely create fanworks for it on the DL. But I definitely don't think anyone would ever figure out I was the creator.

I'd honestly be surprised if there weren't creators who contributed fanworks to their fandoms. But how would we ever know, unless they actively tried to get found out?

once someone asked me in all seriousness if I was Jane Espenson after reading some of my fanfiction. I've always wondered since then if she writes fanfic for her various series and if she'd be well-known or a hidden gem in them.

Each time I've seen a creator write fic for their own series it's been really uncomfortable fannishly (it's happened at least twice in Yuletide alone). I hope that if you do write fic for your own works you can keep your mouth shut!

Who's done this?

Hard same, OP. I have a book coming out next week, and I've already figured out my new fandom identity so I can try to become a BNF.

(As if anyone other than my boyfriend is actually going to buy the book!)

Congrats, anon! I hope your book does well! And hey, even if it doesn't sell much, getting a book published is still a hell of an accomplishment. You deserve to feel very proud!

This is the dream!

Am an author with a VERY small fandom. Can confirm: This is fun and satisfying. Haven't been found out just yet, but I'm sure I'll slip up someday.

Sure, Naomi.

Pretty sure that this has been a secret several times before. It's not a new hope/wish/dream.
