I've found that for me personally white noise is better than nothing, but ear plugs are better than white noise. When I was in Boston in a loud city, I used both. I had an air purifier for the white noise and then ear plugs. Here in a quieter place I use just the ear plugs.

It really is an individual thing. Some of us really do need silence to sleep, though.

AYRT - and for me, sleeping in ear plugs makes me anxious. These days, my street is quiet enough that most of the time I don't need anything, but if it's noisy or I've been having trouble sleeping then running a fan or something usually works fine.

Except for that time when there was a fox screaming behind the house, but I'm pretty sure blood-curdling screams aren't the kind of thing I want to sleep through anyway.
