/ Re: Secrets You Can't Be Bothered to Make
I don't mind autistic headcanons when autistic people make them, but I can't stand it when neurotypicals do it because they end up falling into stereotypes of what they think autism is.
Inevitably, NTs throw autistic headcanons at characters like Spock or Data from Star Trek because they're strange and outwardly unemotional characters.
An autistic person can write that with nuance only other autistic people can understand. NTs tend to miss those internal nuances, so their writing comes off as stereotypical and I end up hating it. Being autistic is like an iceberg, and NTs only get what's above water. There is so much more below that happens internally and most of it can't really be explained.
Then the same NTs turn around and tell an autistic person like me that there's no way the Twelfth Doctor from Doctor Who can be autistic because he's so social and how dare I ruin him with a stupid headcanon like that. *eyeroll*
I'm aware this sounds irrational.
