[Terry Pratchett, Discworld]

If it's any consolation, I don't like him much either.

...but that's still a very nice fanart. He's riding side-saddle like a pretty princess? HAWT!!

IDK, he's not my favorite Discworld character but he's charming enough. He's so clever.

Ha, I love Moist, but this is pretty much how I feel about Sam Vimes.

BLASPHEMY!!

Nah, it's ok, to each their own Nonnie.

I prefer him pre-marriage, but even then I don't love him the way most of fandom seems to love him.

I am 100% with you, OP. He’s the worst discworld character by far imo.

I agree. I usually love Discworld books but I only read one of the books he was in because I found him extremely boring.

AYRT Same! He smacked of marty stu. At least Vimes starts off as pretty well rounded. Although you could argue he becomes quite Flanderized.

i havent met him yet, in which books does he appear?
(i read the witches trilogy, some of the death books and currently Lords and Ladies...)

Going Postal, Making Money, and Raising Steam, in that order.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-20 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
thanks! going postal is on my reading list as well!

They are all very fun!
My favorite of his are all the Sam Vimes/Night Watch books, with the Moist books and the Witches books tying for second.

All the witch books are fun as hell, too, including the Tiffany Aching books.

I like Moist, for what he is, and what his story does to advance the universe.
I detest the name, but I suspect we're supposed to.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-20 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, you just have different tastes than the people who love him. There are a lot of ways to do Discworld, and a lot of people who only engage with certain parts of it, whether those parts are all but (for example) the wizards, or nothing but the watch books.

I really like Moist for himself, but after Going Postal, his books felt pretty lacklustre to me.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-20 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I do wonder how much that was the Alzheimers taking its toll though. :(

Yeah, that was always lurking in the back of my head as well. I largely enjoyed the latter Moist books, but they just didn't have that spark of his earlier work.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-21 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Going Postal is my favorite Discworld book, but I have no particular feelings for Moist as a character.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-21 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
I remember liking Going Postal though it's not in my top five favorite Discworld books or anything. But Moist is... very forgettable as a character?
