I think 3d printing is the biggest technological breakthrough in space exploration in our time. The biggest prohibitive factor in space exploration is the cost of getting things up there. Now you only need a 3d printer and bots capable of harvesting and refining minerals from the asteroid belt and boom, you've got yourself tge Jupiter shipyards.

We're not quite there yet but I think there will be space mining at least before I die. (And i'm kinda bummed about it as an idea.)

Yep. And then we'll act all amazed when the reduction in the moon's mass starts fucking with the tides and life on earth. Because humans are unbelievably stupid when there's money at stake.

We have asteroids to go after instead. Might be easier with lower gravity.

I think it's awesome. Space is full of dust and rocks and *junk* - plenty out there to mine that won't really change a thing. Shipyard at Jupiter - SO AWESOME!

I think it's the idea of looking up at the moon and seeing humanity's grubby fingerprints all over it that depresses me.
