Nice terminology. Very slick. Reads well. Good punctuation. A+

Why is it funny to see someone trip? Why is slapstick humor funny? Why do people still like the Three Stooges? Same thing here, so far as I'm concerned.

It's actually sort of cute that you're so worried for me. I mean, seriously. Delusions of grandeur and savior complexes much?

Re: 126

So you have trouble distinguishing between things which happen in movies or on TV, and things which involve real people with real lives.

You may get through life just fine without resolving any of your issues and may have no interest in gaining more self-awareness, but I've seen the damage that people like you can do to real people in the real world, and it isn't particularly funny.

Re: 126

(Anonymous) 2008-10-06 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Good thing I'm just a troll on the internet, hey?

Re: 126

(Anonymous) 2008-10-06 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
The internet, which is populated by real people.

Re: 126

(Anonymous) 2008-10-06 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Oh snap. I'm a real person too. Now what?

Re: 126

(Anonymous) 2008-10-06 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
And most of us are treating you like one.

Re: 126

(Anonymous) 2008-10-06 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes I bet in real life you're full of compassion and love for your fellow man or woman!

Re: 126

(Anonymous) 2008-10-06 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
You won't believe me, but, yes, I actually am. I work in public service and some of the groups we serve are the homeless and people living below the poverty line. It's rough. A lot of these people didn't finish high school, so they can't find a job in this economy, and they have nothing to fall back on. They've been let down by the system and it's really frustrating to see. A lot of them have untreated mental illnesses, which just compounds the issue. I wish there was more that I could do for them, but there just isn't the money available. It's depressing, especially when they have nowhere to go. Some of them go to the public library and just play on the internet all day. They don't look for jobs like they say they are because there just aren't any jobs, but YouTube and MySpace are still fun.

Re: 126

(Anonymous) 2008-10-06 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
So why do you make fun of similar people, or those who care about them, online?

Re: 126

(Anonymous) 2008-10-06 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Because I can.

Re: 126

(Anonymous) 2008-10-06 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Suggests you don't really give a shit about them then, doesn't it?

Re: 126

(Anonymous) 2008-10-06 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not saying my job is easy or fun. Believe me, we have verbal wank in the break room every day.

Re: 126

(Anonymous) 2008-10-06 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Would you say these things TO the people themselves?

Re: 126

(Anonymous) 2008-10-06 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Oh fuck no. Being in the break room is just like being anon. You can let our all your frustrations with no worries. And no one hears about it. And then, when everyone feels better, we think "well, maybe we could try again" and we get our compassion back up and running. No one can be constantly compassionate except for maybe a saint. Maybe you're a saint. I don't know. But we need to let off steam. That's what that is, and that's what this is. We rant and rave, and then we're okay again.

But maybe you perfect people don't understand us imperfect people. And that's okay too, but I wish you wouldn't look down on us so much. *crai*

Re: 126

(Anonymous) 2008-10-06 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
This isn't the break room though. You say you wouldn't say it to the people themselves, but you're okay with saying it to people with mental health problems on the internet? Don't you see the contradiction there? They might not be homeless but you were still okay with mocking someone with depression and PTSD.

Re: 126

(Anonymous) 2008-10-06 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
That's why we're saying you have some serious unresolved issues.

Re: 126

(Anonymous) 2008-10-06 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
And I keep saying that it's really funny that that bothers you so much.

Re: 126

(Anonymous) 2008-10-06 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't bother me, I just think it's pathetic that you think you're so much better than people who haven't gotten better when you are obviously still very fucked up yourself.

Re: 126

(Anonymous) 2008-10-06 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but you think it's pathetic (your word; emphasis mine), which is weird, because, really, I don't matter in the scheme of things. You just think I'm fucked up and you're stuck on that. It's weird. Can't you get over me?

Re: 126

(Anonymous) 2008-10-06 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Back up. These were the people you were mocking when you started this wank.

Re: 126

(Anonymous) 2008-10-06 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Isn't that a neat trick?

Actually, I'm mocking the OP (remember the secret?) who is clearly spoiled out of his or her mind that she's able to play online in fandom with no worries while other people aren't so lucky. And yet the secret maker says that he or she isn't as self-important as most people, which is clearly a lie the secret maker is telling himself or herself to hide his or her appallingly low self-esteem and repressed jealousy of her peers. Coupled with that is a sense of "specialness", of superiority, in that following the "wrong" path is somehow better--it's a mindset not unlike that of a cult member who believes that he has "seen the truth" in a charismatic cult leader.

That's what this discussion is all about.

Re: 126

(Anonymous) 2008-10-06 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Unless you know the secret maker you don't know what issues and problems they might have, but also, you haven't been replying to the secret maker (unless they are amongst the anons, they sure haven't identified themselves if that's the case), you've been replying to other people discussing issues which stemmed from responses to the secret, but were not directly replying to the secret itself.

Re: 126

(Anonymous) 2008-10-06 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Technicalities. But I still wonder if it's the secret maker or her parents in this income tax bracket. How do you afford your fandom-full lifestyle?

It's been fun though, yeah? I've had fun. And been psychoanalyzed too, and for free, hey! It's pretty cool. And it's really funny that it seems to matter so much to people.

Well, once I sign off, I wonder how longer they'll remember me. A few minutes probably. But I'll always wonder if I'll haunt them. That'd be pretty cool.

Re: 126

(Anonymous) 2008-10-06 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
I'll bet we'd remember you if you hadn't been anonymous.

It's possible to be in fandom without much money, you don't have to collect stuff or buy books or DVDs. Even people on disability have TVs and internet connections. Sure that may not be the OP's position but I don't think it is technicalities that you weren't replying to the OP, you were replying to other people, and only 1 or 2 of them were being jerks at all.

Re: 126

(Anonymous) 2008-10-06 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Blah blah blah blah. I still had fun. It was for the lolz. Thanks for the entertainment, Anon.
