This is, and I don't say this lightly, some of the cutest shit I've ever read.

I'll take you one further... I like to have at least two ponies from each country (G1), so at least they can speak to each other in their own language!

(I also always set them together so they can chat, and no, I'm not posting this un-anon! I always have, going back to when I was a kid)

I ended up with an Italian herd because of that! I accidentally bought an Italian Sky Flier, and I felt awful that none of my ponies (as far as I know) are multi-lingual, so I bought a whole bunch of Italian ponies to keep her company. I think this might be a more common reaction than we think!

(I collect G1 as well as G3, I'm just on a G3 spa day surge at the moment.)

Perhaps so! I specialise in G1 myself (with a smattering of all 4 gens), with a focus on UK and variant ponies, so I have a lot of other nationalities in my herd :)

What the heck, this is adorable.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-21 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Adorable! But I need to ask... why on the stairs??

OP

(Anonymous) 2019-07-21 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Fair question. Because my pony room is on the third floor and the bathroom is on the second. I bring them down to give them a spa day, and let their hair set overnight on the stairs before putting them back into place. I've messed up many a hairstyle by carrying too many at once while the hair was still wet. I love my ponies, but not enough to carry them up one by one (I need one hand free for the hand rail for mobility reasons). So, overnight they set, then up they go in a bag.

Ah, makes sense! :)

OP I have a weird question and you seem like the perfect person to ask...

I know about the customizing community among pony folks, but what about restorers? I have an enormous G1 collection from the 1980s and I would like to sell them but some part of me doesn't want them to go to people who will recolor and customize them. I'd rather they went to people who can lovingly restore and preserve them. Where does one go to find them?

OP

Hi there. I'm exactly the same. I have to be very hard pushed to write something off as bait and let it be customised (although I do buy them from others, I just couldn't do that to a pony myself).

I'd be very interested in buying your collection - I'm in the UK, so if you're not, shipping may be an issue that needs consideration. If you drop me an email, we could talk about what you have, prices and things like that. And if it's not going to work selling to me, I can point you in a few other directions for buyers.

My email is slcanfield at gmail dot com.

Cheers.

Thank you! I'll probably get back to you this week just to start a discussion. I would have to collect the ponies from my parents and inventory them so you would know what I have and soforth. Shipping doesn't bother me, I know it would be a boatload because I regularly ship my own merchandise to the UK. My loins are girded for such a possibility.

Excellent, I'll look forward to hearing from you. And I'm well-versed in the costings of shipping to the UK. I've spent a small fortune getting ponies to my house. And it's always worth it! (Stranger Things Applejack was the most recent. She's awesome.)

There are certainly a fair number of collectors that prefer them in their original state, but it will depend on what kind of condition they are in at the moment. If they are at least middling, they can probably find a home. It does depend on rarity also.

(like OP, I'm in the UK, otherwise I'd offer to sell them for you at Ponycon)

I respect your hobby

When i was a kid and had stuffed animals and dolls, I always made sure they were sitting comfortably and could see and such. I did the same for my daughter's animals and her dolls.

I do it now for my tchotchkes, if they're an animal or human-shaped thing.

Sounds like a tripping hazard on the stairs, but I love that you set their tails! I used to braid mine in ever more complicated plaits.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-22 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
This is really sweet! Just be careful putting them on the stairs since those guys can be pointy as hell...
