I don't want to every hear about the Chinese market ever again in my life

You will as long as it's one of the markets generating the most money for Disney.

I don't care how much money Disney makes.

But Disney cares and Disney doesn't care that you don't care.

So?

And let's be realistic, we are not market analysts here. We have no real idea what the actual preferences of the Chinese market are or how those shape Disney's decision making. And, in fact, the only real way that the Chinese market actually ever gets invoked is as a blanket explanation for why Disney can't have queer relationships or black casts. That doesn't reflect any real analysis or nuance or even any real understanding of the Chinese film market, it's just pure knee-jerk cynicism being used to make excuses for a multinational conglomerate.

You are very naive and/or ignorant concerning Chinese censorship.

I have no brief for China's government or policies of censorship but there's a long history of people using the supposed bigotry of Chinese audiences as an excuse for why Hollywood can't have representation, and it's pretty much always bullshit, so I'm pretty fucking tired of it.

Same shit when people said that Black Panther wouldn't make money in China (before they were proven wrong).

So you don't really know what you're talking about but you still want to whine that you don't like it. OK.

Strangely, Disney does.

Of course they do, and they're going to operate in accordance with what they think is going to make them the most money, but that's no reason to consider those decisions correct, or carry water for them, let alone take a perverse pleasure in explaining that Disney can never have more diversity because the Nasty Foreign Chinese won't approve of it.

Obviously queer content that can't be cut will get a movie banned in China. There's no ~perverse pleasure~(wtf) about it, its simply a shitty fact.
