I’ve been sick for much of 2019 and haven’t been able to keep active. As a result I’ve gained a little weight and sort of softened up all over. Not a huge amount but enough that I notice. It bothered me for a while. The love for his body that I’ve been seeing in fic lately is helping me not mind so much. (Fanart by juliedillon on dA)

Aw, I'm sorry you've had a rough time of it health-wise this year, OP :(.

I'm very glad that the response to his character is helping you with everything, though, and cheering you up a bit. Take care, and hope you get to feeling much better as soon as possible :).

Chubby bodies are only accepted by society if they're men though or, if you're female, the weight needs to go to your ass, hips, boobs, or thighs. Otherwise, you're fucked. Sorry, OP.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-22 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
What rubbish. Don't go around spreading things like that as though it's everyone's opinion.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-22 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Speaking as a former fat girl, the difference in treatment and just general respect you're given once you lose weight is jarring and blatant. There's a definite stigma present in society as a whole.

I'm large and I feel beautiful - my partner and other people I know make me feel beautiful. I see other large people of all genders as beautiful. I'm not saying you're wrong re: how large people are made to feel by the media. But I think given OP's feelings on the matter, it was a harsh thing to say when it generally isn't true on the whole. People with any depth to them can look beyond the superficial. And many people simply think that bellies and curves are as cute af.

Same experience here. Gave me a very jaundiced view of human nature to see how much better I was treated as a skinny person than a fat one. Sorry humans, but ya suck.

Male chubby bodies are really not that accepted, if you want to take it there. Not as much body shame as there is for women, but the idea that fat male bodies are accepted and fine is not really true.

Maybe in school or high school, but when they're adults? Men can get away with looking as schlubby as they want.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-23 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
What do you mean by "get away with" here? Because that seems really unclear.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-23 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
I mean that it's normalized and not looked at as an aberration worth staring at. They're still treated with basic respect and decency. We live in a world where the value of women is based on their looks, anon, men will never be on the receiving end of that kind of bullshit.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-23 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
That's not really true, though. They're treated with *more* respect and decency and much less hostility, because we live in a fundamentally misogynistic society, as you rightly point out, but fatphobia is still a thing in general.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-23 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
Here's the difference:

Men and women are both judged on their bodies.

Men are mainly judged on their bodies in areas where their looks are what is being assessed.

Women are judged by their looks and bodies for every aspect of their lives - their competence, intelligence, goodness, worthiness as a human being.

Ugh, stop

Look, I know chubby people, male or female, get a lot of shit for their weight. The OP didn't say they think fat-discrimination has ended, or that the world at large shares the tastes of that part of the Good Omens fandom. It just makes them feel better about their body type to see people responding positively to it in fics. Jeez. At least now they know SOME people like their body type.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-23 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, you're an asshole. Stigma and bias are unfortunately still around, but your response to a very positive secret about the OP's personal feelings was completely rude and uncalled for.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-23 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
There's cute skinny people. There's also cute chubby people. Nevertheless, I hope you feel better and also I'm glad you can feel better about yourself.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-23 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
I avoid chubby fics because they read really fetish-y. I guess it would be different if the character was actually chubby, and not just a really fit character turning into it for the fic.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-23 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
In this case the character is chubby though. Both in the TV show and based on what little physical description is given in the book.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-23 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, I'm glad it's helping you, OP!

I feel the same way about people lusting after Clancy Brown's Hank from Detroit: Become Human. Makes me feel better are being a chubby guy. Solidarity, OP!
