Fire Emblem is a series of games, mostly unconnected plot wise (think like Final Fantasy.) The offspring mechanic only shows up in about 3 games of the series. The total number of Fire Emblem games now is about 16 counting a mobile game. Even in two of those games, the offspring mechanic can be ignored, though to do so you miss out on a lot of the best characters of the game both power and characterization wise and cut out some of the most heartwarming moments.

It isn't particularly iconic to the series and most of them don't even have it. The most recent game doesn't have it either.
