How else would girls picture themselves back then? At least in my case... all the fantasy/sci-fi books were written from the male perspective, that omitted strength and self-sufficiency. Not as a long haired thing with boobs and no character/life/ambition at all. I’m sure at least half of my internal struggle against my female parts comes from reading 80s/90s American fantasy/scifi šŸ™„
