(Anonymous) 2019-07-26 12:54 am (UTC)(link)The Lion King musical has people who are obviously humans dressed as animals, 'cause in a musical theater setting there's only so much you can do. They're supposed to be lions, and the audience gets the idea.
The Lion King CGI movie has animals that can talk, because in a movie setting with voice actors you can do a whole lot more, and they don't have to look like humans wearing skin tight costumes.
The Cats CGI movie could do that too. They had humans wearing skin tight costumes because those were the limitations of musical theater. It doesn't change that they're supposed to be cats and could just be cats.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-26 01:25 am (UTC)(link)Cats is a show that MUST be performed by actors. Dance is a HUGE element. It's practically a ballet. The human acting and movement is literally its selling point, besides the actual singing. Making it CGI would be to strip it of its artistry. No, fuck no.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-26 01:36 am (UTC)(link)They could just make cartoon cats that stand upright and use motion capture on real people, the solution is much simpler than you think.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-26 01:53 am (UTC)(link)If you want to translate dance to the screen, they could just play a video of the live action musical, right? No point in making the new movie at all.
But since they are making one, and it's not going to be live-action, and we're discussing how it could be better while leaving uncanny valley behind, here we are.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-26 02:04 am (UTC)(link)Didn't they specifically get an elite ballerina for one of the dance-heavy parts because they wanted to showcase that?

(Anonymous) 2019-07-26 02:10 am (UTC)(link)If you're not the kind of person who wants to see that, you probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as a musical in the first place. That's fine. But Cats absolutely has to be human performers if it's going to maintain any semblance of its own legacy. To wash it down with CGI is blasphemous.
