Well, Character/OC has gone through some cycles. In the very beginning, it was fine, very much baby's first fic. But sentiment shifted and it was generally assumed then that all OCs were either Mary Sue/Gary Stu or author inserts or both. That continued for awhile and there is still a good amount of disdain for it around to some extent, but there is somewhat less outright hostility for it, especially with the rise of Character/Reader.

There is a lot less 'gay for only you' around and a lot more bisexuality and newly realized homosexuality in non-canon slash pairings.

There is a lot more BDSM fic.

Sex pollen used to be a lot more prevalent.

A/B/O didn't used to be a thing.

There was a lot more fic where every character is gay (and coupled up).

I feel like there's been a shift from an emphasis on capturing the feel of the canon to an emphasis on capturing the characterization.
