I totally agree. I would read your story, though. I mean, they are both hot, so the slash would be awesome, but I don't see why Dean/Castiel is any better than Sam/Ruby. In fact, I think Sam/Ruby is less problematic, because at least when people write that, they seem to get that they are dealing with a pretty dark pairing. Same should be true for Dean/Castiel ...

That's my issue with it, too! I mean, people can write whatever they want, I just personally don't get the very fluffy romantic fic. I don't see it and it's not for me, since I view the character as another Ruby on the opposite side of things. I'm intrigued, but sadly got turned off really fast by the handful of fics that I looked at which saw it more as a "fix-it" pairing rather than a dark one. C'est la vie. :/

I think part of my problem with all the Dean/Castiel fic (as well as the Jensen/Misha fic) is that it's all happening in the context of a fandom that immediately hates almost all the female characters. I'm not saying that everyone who writes Dean/Castiel is sexist -- I'm just tired, I guess, of male actors always being loved, and female actors being hated "because they can't act." *deep sigh*

Oh I know what you mean. It disturbs me, because I remember a lot of people I knew who argued that "it's not because they're female! If it were a male cast member we'd be just as upset!" and I actually believed it. But this... disproves that for the most part. Granted, I think some of the female characters in the past were really poorly written, but I really don't see how Castiel doesn't parallel Ruby in a lot of ways. I definitely don't think most Dean/Castiel fans are sexist either, but it seems that, painfully, there exist a few who are.

Yes! I ship Sam/Ruby (to be honest, my OTP in Supernatural is Dean/Sam, can't help, but I really love Sam/Ruby) to death! And honestly, I liked Castiel, and he's hot and stuff, but... Bah, people don't even know how to write it! I am... Blah. I'm kinda blah. No other words.
