Oh I see. Well, that explains our diverging opinions.

It is a very interesting characterization and interpretation for an angel. I would go so far as to say I don't even like Castiel because of it, which seems odd to say I dislike an angel. Although I do like him being a part of the show, if that makes sense. It makes for a fascinating dynamic.

And yes, meatsuit is not an attractive term, but it's what the writers gave us, so. One must make do!

Yeah, I'm mostly coming at it from a POV that doesn't have anything to do with Supernatural in particular. XD;;

I kind of love angels that are some varying degree of bastard. XD Aziraphale on one end of the scale (still a good angel), progressing through to Remiel and Duma from Sandman and Lucifer, then through to like... Islington and the Angel Sanctuary cast. ;;

Ah, I don't even mind it not being attractive, I just was a little confused because I thought it was an EW HOW GROSS argument... like, I dunno, I assumed they were meaning the body didn't count as "alive" if it was an angel or a demon puppeting it. WHICH IS ARGUABLE but again I don't know how the canon portrays that sorta thing so I can't really form a Supernatural-specific opinion.

Actually, as far as we know the guy is still in that body, hence some of the squick. In the premiere, Dean actually calls him out on "possessing the poor bastard." Slightly unrelated - there's been a lot of fan debate over whether the guy Castiel is controlling will outlive the possession (he's been shot and stabbed) and, the sticky point, whether or not Ruby having sex with Sam would be rape and likewise with pairing Dean and Castiel. I could see it being reasonably argued that any sex involving Castiel's temporary body would technically be non-con. There's a lot of room for interpretation, especially since we only have a few scenes with Castiel so far.

As for the agnostic/atheist proof point - the show still hasn't made it clear if Castiel is really everything he says he is. Dean especially is setting a hard line that he doesn't think Castiel is telling the whole truth and isn't really willing to go along with his plans. Their relationship has been very antagonistic. Castiel has even gone so far as to threaten sending him back to hell if Dean doesn't "show him some respect" and do what he says. I could go into it more, but it would a massive load of spoilers and I don't want to be too cruel in case you do decide you'd rather catch up. ;)
