I love the remake too, and I've seen ... oh boy. The original Magnificent 7, the TV show, Seven Samurai, the Samurai 7 anime, and ... don't know if it counts, but there's a really cheesy 1980 sci-fi movie called 'Battle Beyond the Stars' which is essentially M7 IN SPACE and was blatantly trying to cash in on Star Wars as well, and it was terrible and fantastic and I adore it. Also had Robert Vaughn in it playing basically the same role he played in the original M7 as well.

... Possibly my point here is that I'm not picky when it comes to this basic set-up. But the new movie really is a lot of fun, and these particular Seven are fascinating to watch.

The M7 remake was gorgeous and awesome and I was really happy with it, despite its lack of 1960's Yul Brynner.

I think BBtS totally counts, it really was M7 in space in the same way M7 was the 7S in the Wild West. :D
