You might enjoy watching RTGame, he makes fun of the “hot take” stuff.

What is a hot take?

(Anonymous) 2019-07-28 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
A controversial statement, especially one that's overly simplistic and forceful and that's said with the intention of generating controversy and attention. It originally came out of sports talk radio - having a "take" is having an opinion on some controversial issue, and a "hot" take is one that's original and spicy and likely to get people mad.

Ah, so sort of liking voicing an intentionally inflammatory opinion in a way that's definitely intended to inflame.

An opinion that's designed to invoke either controversy or outrage.

People pay attention to what kids on YouTube or Twitch have to say?

I read the news sites to keep up with what's being released, and I still miss half the games I would be interested in, and read or watch guides when I get stuck. Why would fandom politics get in the way of being a gamer when all that shit is easily ignored?

(Anonymous) 2019-07-28 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
You're a gamer if you play video games

They're referring to the shitty subculture.

signed, another gamer who never calls herself a gamer, because it sucks overall.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-28 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Scrolled down to see if there was a transcript... no luck. Why the hell would you put dark purple text on a black background?

(Anonymous) 2019-07-28 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Since when is paying attention to youtubers or egirls a requirement to be a gamer? If you play games, you’re a gamer. You don’t need to care about other ‘more famous’ gamers to be valid.

There's clearly a subculture that's built around and defined by playing and caring about video games, though. That subculture exists, and it seems like that subculture is clearly what OP is talking about.

So, is there some other name for that subculture that people should be using instead? Or what's the solution here?

Just play the games

(Anonymous) 2019-07-29 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)

i'm pretty confused by this secret. i've never kept up with peoples' opinions online if they weren't my own friends. i just play.
