That's my least favorite Spider-Man. Tobey is my favorite (his first movie was decent, and his second movie was possibly the best non-MCU superhero movie), Holland is my second favorite.

Sure is a shame they never made a 3rd one, huh

(Anonymous) 2019-07-28 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
At least they were willing to try something weird. I'm glad they took a swing even if they missed.

Third one wasn't great, But I think it was better than either of the Amazing Spider-Man movies. Those movies just didn't get the Spider-Man character right at all.

Yes, totally agree with this. I enjoyed Homecoming, but they still kinda treat him with kiddy gloves when you honestly don't need to, especially with high school kids. I miss those 90's to early 2000's films that were a little more rough around the edges. Adolescence is no walk in the park.

To each their own, I guess. Meanwhile, Tobey Maguire continues to play my least favorite character in every movie he's ever been in. It's possible that he's a perfectly nice person in real life, but something about him is just very punchable.

I didn't even think he was that amazing in it. It is just that they got the character completely right. That's how I see the comic character. Holland is close to how I'd see a kid version. But the Maguire version is very much how an adult version would be. The Amazing Spider-Man version is just nothing like how I see Spider-Man. At all. They were trying to be trendy and cool, but they were trying too hard and it didn't work for me.

I don't have quite the knee-jerk hatred for him that you do, but I definitely get where you're coming from. I think he's a solid actor, and I have zero reason to take issue with him. And yet something about him is just annoying to me.

I felt like Tobey was fine as Spidey but not as Parker...which is weird considering I've always felt like Spider-Man doesn't have a definite line between him and his regular identity in the way of, for example, Batman. Apart from the secrecy of course.

Agree that Spider-Man II is one of if not the best non-MCU superhero movies. Definitely the best non-MCU Marvel one. I still watch that one regularly.

> possibly the best non-MCU superhero movie

Pretty sure that crown belongs to Into the Spiderverse - another great Spidey.

Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker/Spider-Man was interesting. I’d rather see him interact with Deadpool.

((((praying hands emoji intensifies))))) this, or adult spidey like he is in the sm/dp comic run (may it rest in peace except for the last arc which was garbage, good night to everyone but that writer, etc)

I have no idea who the guy on the right is, but never before have I ever seen someone who smiles like someone with no teeth while actually having teeth...

Andrew Garfield, the actor who played Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Before Tom Holland and after Tobey Maguire. Ryan Reynolds and he were seated together at the Golden Globes and kissed for the laughs when Ryan Gosling (in La La Land) won for the award Ryan Reynolds (in Deadpool) was also up for.

Can we add Venom to the mix or would the multiverse explode?

Best. Threesome. Ever.

I wouldn't be surprised if they reboot Deadpool to be MCU friendly. I can't really see Disney leaving that character boxed off by himself under their Fox brand.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-29 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Argh, no!

(Anonymous) 2019-07-28 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Somehow, I just have no memories of him as Spider-Man. None! I don't remember anything about him and his movies! And I'm pretty sure I've *seen* them, so... IDK.

(Anonymous) 2019-07-29 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
I'd love a crossover of movie Deadpool with a Spider-man, but first they have to cast a good Spider-man. The only good movie Peter Parker Spider-man has been the ITSV one. The live action ones have all been... not Spider-man to me. Personal opinion is Maguire is the worst but it is a really low bar. The actual first few movies were better than the first reboot though.

”ILU Tom Holland but high school Spidey is boring me.”

Same, OP. So very much.

I know it’s not a popular opinion at all, but Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man is still my favorite by quite a lot (can’t stand the Tobey Maguire version), and even though I do like Tom Holland, I was still disappointed that they recast when pulling Spider-Man into the MCU, because I really wanted to see that version of the character interact with the Avengers. I mean, I get why they did, but....I was still disappointed.

My one silver lining in not getting an Amazing Spider-Man 3 was that Shailene Woodley was apparently supposed to play MJ, and....er. No. Glad that never happened.
