There is a number of people who insist on using they/them pronouns for BB-8 in their Star Wars fanfic. And it is super annoying. Not because I care about a tincan's gender identity (though I do find it pretty silly that a droid's "gender" is the hill those people want to die on) but because the singular they/them is really jarring and annoying to read in a text when used interchangeably with the plural they/them.

"It's to confusing using singular they/them against plural they/them! BB-8 should be he/him or she/her!" I literally do not have this problem anywhere because, congrats, I can read this magical thing called context.

Guess what, there are situations, depending on an author's writing, where that context isn't nearly as clear as you like to pretend. And when there's a group of people acting next to a theythempronouns character, shit gets muddled sometimes. But congrats. You definitely win a prize for never having encountered that.

Is English not your first language? Or are you just not very good at it? Because English has lots of confusing features, so if singular they/them (which has existed in English since before the birth of Shakespeare) is enough to throw you...
