Re: Secrets You Can't Be Bothered to Make

I read a lot of them and yeah, it can be rough. There are several degrees to this, though. There are the MTLs, which are ususally a brain frying affair. Then there are edited MTLs which is often just a small step above the unedited crap. I can't really read those. I have read strongly edited MTLs that were better than actual translations though.

Then there's the issue that some translators are neither proficient at Chinese NOR English and it really shows. Weirdly enough, those are often the people who refuse to get an extra editor...

And then, of course, there's the issue that translating Chinese texts is a bit tricky since the Chinese grammar doesn't really have a past tense. And one of the main issues I run into because of that is a plethora of tense-hopping. That's honestly something that bothers me a lot, and I'm not even an English native speaker. And it's also a language full of weird idioms and flowery metaphors so that can be a problem as well. Not to mention the terms that some people do translate and some don't (like, for example, Shixion/elder martial brother, these kind of things).
