OK.

I also don't understand why people feel obligated to keep up with canon, especially when it's to the extent that you would rather no canon existed than run the risk of having to accept a bad canon.

I wrote the comment the secret was based on. Mostly this is for writing fanfic. Yes, I can stop watching at any point and write an AU from that point or something based on earlier seasons. But the longer a show goes on, the more possibility of retcons or surprise backstories. Sometimes someone doesn't even get a name until the fifth season (looking at you, Teen Wolf). If I write something before a revelation in canon contradicts it, I'm fine with it, mostly, but I would find it very grating if I accidentally did it after a revelation in canon because I didn't know it had happened.

This sounds an awful lot like "I don't understand why people want to do fandom differently than I do fandom". People are different, anon. They have different tastes and motivations.

I mean... for the sake of interacting with the fandom? Like... discussions and stuff. Also if you are gonna read/write fic some people are gonna include or talk about canon stuff.

You could totally pretend the last half of a show never happened, but it still exists... even if it's shitty. No point playing dumb about it.
