Am I the only person on the planet that doesn't think Supernatural is anti-feminist or racist? I mean, they kill off everyone, not just the women and the minority races. And when a good strong character of either of those two categories (although, it's usually women) comes along, it's usually fandom who up rises so hard that the ratings drop and the writing team has nothing left to do but write them off or risk their show getting canceled.

I don't know, maybe I'm not seeing it because I love the show so much, but you can't just say 'all the women die, anti-feminism rah' and ignore the fact that literally everyone but like Bobby has been killed.

You're not, sadly.

There's a difference in the treatment of women and men as recurring characters. There's a difference in the treatment of women as characters. There's a difference in the way they die, in the number of women who are useful as opposed to men. There's a difference in the way they treat male and female villains.

But you're not the only one who doesn't see it.

And trust me, fandom is not that powerful. If Kripke said "fuck off, I'm going to write this my way" and every person who hates the female character stopped watching, they'd still have plenty of casual fans. As I said-- it's gotten to the point where my casual-fan, non-feminist male friends are noticing this shit.

These differences that are quite clearly there in the show, are these always differences synonymous with sexist, racist, misogynist labels? I accept that there are differences (you'd be blind not to see them) but I'm not seeing that they always equate to the accusations levelled at this show. Sometimes yes (but not overly more than several other shows out there) but sometimes I have to wonder if some fans are now uber sensitive to the depictions of females simply because there has been so much fandom analysis of this aspect of the show.
