I wanted to apoligize for the way I worded my fandom secret.

No, I'm not sorry for disliking those things, and I know a lot of people will hate me no matter what I say because of that. However, the "pure" comment at the end was rude and elitist sounding. It made me sound like I think I'm better than other people for not liking those things, and I don't think I am nor do I want to think I am. I'm not a troll, rather somebody who wanted to express an opinion that in public they'd get hammered for, like everybody else here. But the way I said it was rude, and I apoligize for that.

To each his own, and I don't blame you for having an opinion. Last I checked, that was the point of this comm; saying things you might not necessarily say in public, or things you don't know where else to say.

I think managing to stir up wank here when you're not even trolling is an achievement you should be proud of. Your secret made me lol.

"Pure" wasn't so much elitist as it was extremely judgmental and moralistic -- and nothing, but nothing gets people defensive like someone suggesting that they are wrong to enjoy the things they enjoy, even if that wasn't your intention at all.

You got a legitimate fandom beef: You just want to enjoy fandom, and you are frustrated that people are pissed off at you. What you haven't been able to do is figure out what it is that you are doing to trigger the flames, because you've been asking for it. This secret is just a perfect example of how you can put your foot in your mouth without realizing it.

Thanks for this. I posted my response in an earlier thread before I caught this, so I just want you to know, I appreciate your making this post. Seriously, I understand feeling alone in fandom when you're not interested in those things, and it can be even worse when such a majority of fandom does, so they get defensive and upset unless things are *very* carefully worded--that can't help if you already feel excluded.

I'm hoping you'll be able to find a niche in the fandoms you enjoy, because fandom really can be a fun, wonderful thing, and I think everyone should get a chance to experience that sharing.

I agree with what someone said earlier--if you're more specific in your offers and recognize the people who disparage you for *liking what you like* as trolls, you might find kindred spirits.

It's ok, we're all sorry you're a prude.
