So uncanny valley, yikes.

I'm not saying getting rid of the human lips and teeth would have made it good, but it would have made it better.

What? How.

Because cats with cat faces are less creepy than cats with human mouths.

Unless you're into cats with human mouths, in which case, rock on.

My sister tried to argue with me "but have you seen Cats? The costumes are always like this!" except for the stage costumes (while a bit weird) kinda work on the "humans pretending to be actual cats" level whereas this just looks somewhere between terrifying and shit. It really is like that one scene from What We Do in the Shadows only someone took it seriously.

I think with the stage costumes it's the fact they facepaint on some of the cat features and style their hair/wigs to look like ears. This film just looks like a nightmare brought to life. It's how I imagine you'd end up if your crossed-over Cats with The Fly.

Whenever someone tries to use the "but have you seen the musical's costumes?" my answer is always "yes, and that's the reason that I've NEVER SEEN IT" despite loving cats as a species. The costumes always skeeved the shit out of me and the movie is taking it to an entirely new level of discomfort.

I think that's quite common (and people need to be mindful/accepting of it) because I went to school with someone who loved musicals *except* Cats because the costumes freaked her out. I'm fairly sure fear of costumed people is going to be an actual thing in general as well.

Yeah. I've seen people try out that argument and I end up wondering if THEY'VE ever seen the musical because no, the costumes are not like that. They're more... well, costumes and face paint. Not weird CGI pseudo-furries.

It sounded like "pleeeeease give me an oscar!!"

(Anonymous) 2019-08-04 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Swap out "Oscar" for "Tony" and is the stage production really any different?

I really didn't like what we heard of "Memory", but I thought it had more to do with the musical choices than the vocal performance as such.
dinogrrl: Beethoven wtf face (Beethoven wtf)

You know, most revamped character designs I can at least get used to after a while if I keep seeing pictures of them.

These just look worse every time I see a new picture.

Cut her some slack. She needs the job.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-05 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
A big difference for me is that the stage show has face paint to give them cat noses. Here they just...look like weird, distorted humans.

I would very much like to set aside the creepy animation, but I don't think i can.
