Re: Wait, is there a live-action adaptation where Jimmy Olsen is a redhead?

People have been quoting the line "her skin was as clear and delicate as a rose-leaf" to say the original should have greenish skin, not white.

Pretty sure green skin would have been remarked on when she got on land (though one translation said "Her skin was as soft and tender as a rose petal", which is what I got from that), but I meant the references to her white arms and legs -
"Little did they dream that a pretty young mermaid was down below, stretching her white arms up toward the keel of their ship."
"Lowering her gaze, she saw that her fish tail was gone, and that she had the loveliest pair of white legs any young maid could hope to have."
"Then the little mermaid lifted her shapely white arms, rose up on the tips of her toes, and skimmed over the floor."
This one is about her sisters: "Then her sisters rose to the surface, looked at her sadly, and wrung their white hands."
"Only the helmsman remained on deck as the little mermaid leaned her white arms on the bulwarks and looked to the east to see the first red hint of daybreak, for she knew that the first flash of the sun would strike her dead."

I'm not saying these people are correct. (I haven't read the story in like 35 years and trust your quotes.) I'm just saying what I've been seeing everywhere. Like this:

Which was posted by FB friends more than once.

But I still stick with my original statement that this is a Disney remake of a Disney property, so saying that the original doesn't have red hair doesn't seem like a gotcha to me. Especially as you point out that the original mentions white skin several times, which I did not remember, and which absolutely will be different in the remake.

I have no issue with the new casting. If Halle can sing and act well, she is already a step up from Emma's Belle. But to me, dismissing out of hand that this character did have an iconic look that is being replaced doesnt sit well. Yes, she is different; they are absolutely redoing the look. But different can be good, even in a remake.
