On one hand I definitely agree that fandom is for fun and people should do what they want and fandom isn't homework.

On the other hand there is definitely a distinct lack of F/F in fandom overall, even in fandoms with a lot of female characters, and it's a little frustrating. It's perfectly valid to be annoyed by it because it is a problem.

It's nobody's fault but it still sucks and I do get frustrated when I see how much more m/m fic there is

I haven't watched Handmaid's Tale, does it even have potential for F/F? I get no joy in shipping women in unequal power dynamics, be it F/F or M/F. But M/M or M/F with unequal power imbalance where it's the man in the weaker or submissive position does a lot for me.

I guess I'm just a misandrist.

A majority of the cast are women, and most of those women are in the same oppressed class. There's tons of potential for F/F. Several of the women are lesbian/bi.

judging by the comments to the episode promos, you may be correct. They introduced the new Commander from DC and there were a lot of comments about how that Commander wanted to bang Fred.

I'm not sure if that would have been an interesting direction or not. I don't think the show runners would be willing to commit in that direction despite all the violence against women. (Which makes the violence towards men a bit more stark in contrast b/c they have such control in Gilead.)

There's at least one fic where he bangs Fred. And I'm not saying it's a bad idea to write fic like that, either. But I doubt the show would ever have gone there, considering the attitude toward (male) homosexuality in Gilead.

There probably isn’t a lot of fix because the source material is so deeply about misogyny/patriarchal values that i imagine it’s hard for people to get over that uncomfortable factor.

I'm sure that's a large part of it.

The premise of the series makes me so uncomfortable that I don't even want to watch/read it, nevermind dwell in that world with fanwork. Aside from the usual reasons for female-oriented show/pairings getting less fanfic.
