I feel like I (and some others I've met) am only into it because I grew up watching shounen and it's approached with the mindset "I know the drill, let's go", kind of like how reading fanfiction for other fandoms, I already know everything about the source material so there's no need to get into it too deeply. I know there's the protag and his rival and his potential gf and his sidekick(s) and his mentor and the evil guys and there's lots of cool battles - end of episode 1.

Then again I'm not in the fandom and watch other shows too so I don't know what you've witnessed but I hope this post helped.
