Legalized super-heroing is an interesting concept. The MCU tried to make it a plot point for half a movie but then kinda skipped over it after things blew up. MHA doesn't go deep into that part either, sure, but it's enough to be a good playground for people. I've seen people write MHA AUs, with or without MHA characters, same way people write Harry Potter AUs for unrelated fandoms because they like the magic and Hogwarts houses.

The characters are hit or miss but they're not full stereotypes, and I can appreciate that. Character development is usually maintained--main character learns to save himself first before saving others, main character stops going with self-harming tactics. Bully learns teamwork, bully doesn't go back to relying on himself all the time (yet to apologize, but I'm hoping for it...). In a genre where a lot of main characters continuously makes the same mistakes on repeat, it's nice to know there's some progress.

It's weird to keep comparing it to Harry Potter but it feels the same way to me. I don't have strong feelings for the Harry Potter characters or the story, but I love the setting and the way it organized magic. MHA has the foundation down solid and I can see why a lot of people are running away with it in their fanworks, even if I have no idea how to go through all of it to find something I'll enjoy.

Also, Bones animation be Boning. I've been skipping chapters of the manga lately because it's gotten boring for me, but once the anime starts again I'll definitely be watching just for the animation.

Have you seen Tiger and Bunny? The whole core of the show is superheroes using their powers in a competitive tv show. Amazing characters, good music, beautiful animation. Such a fucking awesome anime that’s criminally underrated.
