I don't remember that scene at all, but thank you, I can at least kind of see now how that would make her look selfish.

Personally it looks to me like she's worried about him and it's not like there would be nobody else to protect Earth if he gives up fighting. She's just saying it doesn't have to be him. So like, she's a bit selfish but it's not the one-dimensional awful evil bitch deliberately trying to sabotage everything selfishness the fandom made her out to be.

And I still think Yurika was worse for the shit she pulled constantly throughout the whole show, which is worse than any one scene could ever be. I couldn't buy Akito falling in love with her at the last minute, it felt more like he'd just given up trying to get away from her advances because he knew she'd keep stalking him until he gave her exactly what she wanted.

Ugh, goddamnit, I wanted to be with you on all this, because I am so here for all the girl characters that get shit on for daring to have feelings for characters that are narratively "taken", or girls that are pitted "against" each other as potential love interests, but-- you're just doing the same thing in reverse. :/ You can't sit there and disparage people for trashing on Megumi and then be like actually Yurika was worse.

They were both young women! In love with the same guy! They both made some mistakes! They're both good people and good characters!

The good thing about Megumi was that she did eventually figure out she wasn't a good match for Akito, by the end of episode 16. Other anime would've milked the love triangle for all it was worth, even through the more serious shit that happened after that point.
