I don't take my rings off except to shower and go to bed.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-07 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
So you leave them on when you, EG, do the dishes? Or take a crap?

(Anonymous) 2019-08-07 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes.

Why would you take your rings off either of those times? To protect your skin when washing dishes you should wear gloves. And when you go to the bathroom? Do you not use toilet paper and then wash your hands afterwards?

(Anonymous) 2019-08-07 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
But - as OP points out - washing your hands with your rings on gets them all oxidized and stuff.

Also, I never wear gloves when washing dishes. Way too much effort.

Then don't wear cheap faux rings. You can get perfectly nice silver rings for relatively cheap.

The secret maker has OCD. There is no reason to take off your rings for every little thing.

Nayrt - I think diagnosing them with OCD is a little harsh and they do point out that they don't want to lose more expensive rings.

Do you have any recs for where you get your rings? I kinda wanna start wearing them.

OP

I don't wear silver, which incidentally has been known to tarnish and/or turn your skin green.

Also, screw you for making a diagnosis of a serious mental health issue over what many consider basic hygiene.

That's sterling silver, because of the copper in the silver alloy reacting with acids in your skin oils. Pure silver doesn't turn skin green; that's one of the ways you can tell true silver jewelry apart from sterling silver jewelry.

Silver oxidizes fairly quickly, even when not cheap faux silver. It's what makes it one of the cheaper precious metals.

nayrt but I definitely don't wear gloves to wash the dishes. And I think obviously everyone uses toilet paper and washes hands, but if you're reaching to wipe your ass I'm not sure I'd want huge rings possibly brushing against everything.

But then again, I don't wear any rings at all ever so I never really think about that.

....who says the rings are huge? I wear rings on my left hand. That's not the hand i use to wipe, but still - rings wouldn't touch anything other than, *maybe*, the inside of my thigh as i'm reaching down.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-08 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Unless you somehow wear your rings at the very tips of your fingers it's very unlikely that they're going to touch anything.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-07 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Same. I dont even take my full gold rings off when I sleep or shower. The only common time I take them off is at the gym, not to protect them but to protect my hands. Mind you, they're not like 10k each or anything. They're on the cheap side for ~real~ jewelry. So I'm not too over the top worried about them. But even if I was, I think keeping them on is safest. I'm pretty sure you're waay more likely to lose a ring whenever you take it off.

Came to say something like this: my sister has multiple rings and never takes them off except if she has to thoroughly wash her hands or if she knows they'll get dirty.
