I love the early Spiderman movies but they are so utterly cheesy when you watch them, tbh it's part of the fun for me. But one thing I really did like about those movies is that Peter was very visibly poor in them, it highlighted just how much of an underdog he is, removing that aspect in the current movies actually takes away from his character for me because then he's just a white nerdy dude and that's not really underdog status in the context of modern culture.

But regardless the best Spiderman man movie is Into the Spiderverse.

I have two things to say about this.

1. I completely agree. As someone who grew up poor(? poorish?) I love that element of Peter Parker's story, and I kind of wish they'd play on it a bit more with the current Peter. Like making his and May's apartment shabbier and mentioning how he got some kind of a scholarship to the fancy school he goes to, or something. Fandom tends to do that with him - just tweaking it so that he and May are a lot more hand-to-mouth than they seem in canon.

2. It drove me crazy in Spider-Man 2 that May is losing her home because she can't afford it, and Peter is obviously barely scraping by in the shittiest little SRO...so why isn't he living at home? Why is he paying rent to some slumlord, when we could be paying rent to his aunt? The house clearly has at least two bedrooms. Someone will probably make the argument that it's too far from where he works, but I'm unconvinced that a 90 minute commute is prohibitive. Especially since he could probably Spider-Man it most of the way and cut his commute down massively.

Like, don't get me wrong, he and May would still be poor, even if he were living at home. But having May lose the house while Peter lives in an SRO just felt like the script manufacturing contrived ways for Peter's life to suck so that we feel bad for him.

But regardless the best Spiderman man movie is Into the Spiderverse.

I have heard this. As someone who isn't into the comics at all, and is a very hard-sell on animation, I'm not sure it'll be my speed. But I will give it a try at some point.
