Why would you want gore and shock factor in a show that treats the event with dignity? The show having restraint in showing the horrific effects of ARS was a good thing.

The show was exceptionally gory though in its own way. I've never seen such a depiction of lethal radiation before.

I think the reason so many people loved it was shock factor, but without the shock factor it was just a meh drama.
Also I'm showing my age, but there was lots of documentaries etc, and the true horror is the system that allowed it to happen.
